The winner of two consecutive PAN Biennale's in the sculpture category has keep us waiting for his first solo show.
Please join us on the 9th of March at 6pm for NURTURE, the first solo exhibition by Mitchell M Gatsi(Tafy Tang Arts).

About The exhibition:
The exhibition will showcase 32 unique handcrafted ceramic sculptures, vessels and combinations of Sculture vessels.
Mitchell's works portray in clay the day to day challenges and successes that powerful, providing and hardworking single mothers go through in raising their children. The absence of men due to for example unfaithful relationship, unexpected death, divorce, GBV, war, etc. often require for mothers to be completely independent, seeing her kids to richness in mentality and in health of their life(s).

His respects to these accomplishments he translates into charcoal firing earthenware sculptures depicting mothers provinding food, shelter and support.
Along with mastering the pinching technique when sculpting came naturally the creation of pinchpot's and eventually vessels. The collection of vessels show his love for earthy natural shapes.

All the clay products are fired in an electric Kiln at 1150 degrees. With this high firing of the clay a black colour is obtained.
Another series of works in this exhibition are a combination of different types of colour clay, either mixed together, creating a marble effect or used to put details onto sculptural surfaces.

Mitchell is an upcoming experimental sculptor who wishes to learn more and share his practical knowledge in all hand building and wheel work techniques.

About the Artist:
Mitchell was raised in Zambia and grew up in Oxford. After moving from country to country he finally settled down in Namibia. He enrolled at the College of the Arts in Windhoek in 2010 where he majored in ceramic clay sculpting diploma course and graduated in 2014. Afterwards he stayed on at the College of the Arts Clay Studio to further his studies in clay sculpting.

Another major intrest of his is comic illustration which is fast becoming a successful second career.
Mitchell participated in a couple of group exhibitions such as the PAN Biennale, Bank Windhoek Triennial, New Beginnings and Amazing Women to name a few. His works are in the collections of the Namibian Arts Accosiation and the Würth collection.
He also participated in the Tulipamwe International Art workshop 2015.

The exhibition NURTURE - by Mitchell M Gatsi will open on Friday the 09th of March 2018 at 6pm at the Project Room in 32 Jenner Street, Windhoek West.
The exhibition ends on 24th of March.
